What actually is a MODE DME Unlock and how does it work?

IMPORTANT NOTICE: We do not accept DMEs that have a production date of 6/2020 or later, as they cannot be unlocked with this service. The DME production date and vehicle chassis production dates are not the same. Please verify your DME date before sending it in.

As many of you are aware, BMW (and Toyota, for the Supra owners) has started adding additional software to the cars, that prevent flash tuning by OBD2. With this service, you now have the ability to mail your DME (ECU) into MODE Auto Concepts for a Bench Unlock, to then flash Stage 1, Stage 2 or higher with MODE x bootmod3 / bm3, MHD or other flasher tools.

After purchasing, you will receive instructions on where to send your DME into for service. Once received, the DME will be bench unlocked and re-shipped within one business day. MODE will cover the cost of return shipping and it will be sent out with overnight shipping. Please note: MODE Auto Concepts is not responsible for DMEs that are received dead on arrival or damaged in shipping. The customer is responsible for shipping to MODE and the cost covers return shipping and insurance. Additionally, please keep in mind that if a dealer does a software update to the car, it's possible for them to re-lock the DME (both in-person and remotely), which would require the DME to need to be unlocked again. This service is for 1 bench unlock. If a dealer re-locks the DME, an additional DME unlock service would need to be purchased. Furthermore, this cost does NOT include labor for

MODE Auto Concepts to remove or reinstall a DME, as this is a 100% mail-in procedure.

4. Book appointment with MODE Dealer or Remove your DME and prepare for shipping to MODE.
5. We will unlock your DME within 1-2 hours and dispatch your DME for return same or next day.
6. Expect a turnaround time of 0-2 business days for the unlocking process.
7. Your unlocked DME will be returned to you, tested, and ready for installation.
8. Reinstall your DME, ensure everything functions properly, and flash your vehicle using your preferred tuning platform such as MODE x bm3 Ultimate Tuning Bundle.

Important Details:

• Tuning licenses for BM3, MHD Tuning, or MG Flasher are not included.
• Ensure your BM3 license and VIN are activated before sending your DME.
• Disable OTA (Over The Air) BMW, etc. Remote Software Updates in iDrive and on BMW "My BMW" app to prevent accidental tune removal.
