WHAT IS A REAR CAMBER SHIM KIT?

The S55 & S58 powered M3 F8X & G8X have been know to increase camber as the vehicle is lowered.

The rigidly mounted rear subframe and relatively low count of rubber bushings in the back of the F8X means that alignment changes translate very directly into the car’s behavior, and can be felt immediately when a change is made.

A rear camber shim kit is able to lock the rear camber at a set angle to prevent unwanted camber due to lowering or movement of the eccentric bolts.

WHY DO I NEED IT?

When setting up your M car for high performance driving, properly setting the rear camber and toe will yield significant results. The factory eccentric camber bolt has a reasonable amount of adjustment however not a perfect solution when precision and reliability is key. Due to the multi-link design of the rear subframe camber is relative to vehicle height therefore the lower the vehicle the more camber is applied. Often this is overlooked and can significantly affect vehicle performance and grip, no point having all that power if you can get it to the ground.

In some cases, stock vehicles vary from 1.5/2.0 degrease camber on the rear witch is excessive for street application when ideal specs are 0.5/1.0 degrees. Often this goes without notice till it’s time for new tyres or a vehicle service/inspection meaning premature tyre ware, poor performance/traction and not getting the expected kms from expensive tyres. 

Another issue is the factory eccentric bolt under hard driving can shift under load causing rear camber alignment to change without you knowing. This can be a frustrating situation if not identified early when one wheels alignment is completely different to the other affecting the driving experience.
