MODE™ Pro Tuning
Your vehicle. Your setup. Your tune.
More than a power upgrade. MODE™ Pro Tuning brings your engine, modifications and fuel together with a calibration tailored to your vehicle. Expect a considered approach to performance, with drivability, consistency and engine protection at the centre of the process.
What’s the difference between a custom tune and an off-the-shelf map?
An off-the-shelf (OTS) map is designed for a broad range of vehicles running a specified combination of hardware and fuel. It offers a convenient starting point for performance tuning.
A MODE™ Pro Tuning custom calibration goes further. It’s refined around your individual vehicle, taking into account your modifications, fuel quality, operating conditions and the way your engine responds.
Even identical engines can behave differently. Manufacturing tolerances, maintenance history, hardware and climate all influence the result. Custom tuning lets us review those differences through datalogs and adjust the calibration accordingly.
What are the risks of tuning?
Increasing engine output places additional demands on your engine, transmission, cooling and fuel systems. No aftermarket tune or modification can guarantee reliability or eliminate the risk of component failure.
MODE™ Pro Tuning takes a measured approach. We review vehicle data, refine the calibration progressively and consider drivability alongside performance.
A healthy, well-maintained vehicle and the correct fuel are essential. Existing mechanical issues should be addressed before tuning begins, and any changes to your hardware or fuel should be discussed with us before running your current calibration.
How does the tuning process work?
For supported BMW applications, MODE™ Pro Tuning uses bootmod3 and MHD to deliver custom calibrations remotely.
Once you’ve purchased your tune and supplied your vehicle details, we’ll provide your initial file and instructions. You’ll flash the calibration, record the requested datalogs and submit them for review.
We then make revisions based on your vehicle’s response. This process continues until the calibration is complete.
How do I get started with bootmod3?
You’ll need a compatible vehicle and an active bootmod3 licence. If you haven’t purchased a licence, contact MODE™ for assistance.
After purchasing your custom tune, submit a custom tune request through your bootmod3 account. Select the MODE™ tuner profile and include your intended fuel in the map title. Refer to your order instructions for the exact profile to select.

How long does custom tuning take?
The process typically begins within 24 hours on business days. Orders placed over weekends or public holidays are generally picked up on the next business day.
Completion time depends on your engine, hardware, fuel and how quickly you can supply suitable datalogs. Some setups need more revisions than others.
Each revision helps us assess your vehicle’s response and refine the result. We take the time required to develop consistent performance and drivability.
Can I run pump petrol if my vehicle is tuned for E85?
Yes, provided your vehicle is compatible and you use the correct calibration for the fuel in the tank.
A dedicated E85 or ethanol-blend tune should only be used within the ethanol-content range specified for that calibration. Don’t assume it can automatically compensate for a switch to pump petrol.
If your vehicle has a supported flex-fuel setup, the correct hardware and a suitable calibration, the process may differ. Confirm your configuration with MODE™ before changing fuels.
How do I switch from pump petrol to E85?
We supply fuel-change instructions with ethanol-based custom calibrations.
The correct process depends on your vehicle, the fuel remaining in the tank, the ethanol content of the new fuel and your calibration. Follow the instructions provided for your setup.
Don’t rely on the dashboard’s distance-to-empty reading to calculate an exact amount of remaining fuel. Contact MODE™ if you’re unsure how to make the switch.
What about ethanol blends such as E30–E60?
Ethanol blends require accurate mixing to achieve the content your calibration is designed for.
The calculation needs to account for:
-
The quantity and ethanol content of fuel already in the tank.
-
The measured ethanol content of the E85 being added.
-
The ethanol content of the pump petrol being added.
-
The target blend specified for your tune.
Fuel sold as E85 can vary in ethanol content. Measure your fuel and follow the blending instructions supplied with your calibration.
Does running E85 require extra maintenance?
Ethanol use can change your vehicle’s maintenance and storage requirements. Fuel-system compatibility, fuel quality, climate and how often you drive all matter.
Follow the maintenance guidance supplied for your setup. If you plan to store the vehicle or leave fuel unused for an extended period, contact MODE™ for advice before doing so.
Any switch to pump petrol must also follow the fuel-change procedure and calibration requirements for your vehicle.
Should I test my E85?
Yes. Knowing the ethanol content helps ensure the fuel matches the requirements of your tune.
Use a suitable ethanol-content tester or a compatible, correctly installed ethanol sensor. Check before your initial ethanol fill and regularly afterwards, particularly when changing stations or fuel suppliers.
An ethanol-content reading doesn’t establish overall fuel quality. Avoid fuel showing visible particles, separation or other signs of contamination.
Consistency matters: use a reliable supplier and keep your fuel within the range specified for your calibration.
What is remote dyno tuning?
Remote dyno tuning allows MODE™ Pro Tuning to work with you and your chosen dyno operator while your vehicle is tested on a chassis dynamometer.
The dyno measures power and torque while we review datalogs and refine your calibration. This helps us assess how changes affect output and power delivery under controlled test conditions.
Our custom calibrations include up to two hours of remote dyno tuning support. Dyno hire and the workshop’s charges are separate and remain your responsibility.
Sessions must be arranged in advance so we can coordinate with you and your workshop. Contact MODE™ to confirm availability before booking dyno time.
Can I start with datalogging and finish on the dyno?
Yes. You can complete the initial calibration process using approved closed-course datalogging, then book a remote dyno session for further assessment and refinement.
Both methods use vehicle data to guide calibration changes. A dyno also provides measured power and torque, giving us additional information about the result.
Performance datalogging must take place in a suitable controlled environment, such as a dyno facility or authorised closed course. It must not be performed on public roads.
What if I book a dyno session without remote tuning support?
Contact MODE™ before your appointment so we can advise on the requirements for your vehicle and calibration.
Your workshop should confirm the appropriate dyno setup, gear selection, cooling, tyre condition and any vehicle-specific test modes. Adaptation resets or reflashing should only be performed where specifically advised for your setup.
Correct preparation is essential to producing useful, repeatable results. Where possible, we recommend coordinating the session with MODE™ Pro Tuning so we can review the data as it’s collected.
Do I need to upgrade my spark plugs?
It depends on your engine, power target, fuel and current ignition setup.
Higher cylinder pressures and different fuels can change the spark plug specification your engine needs. Heat range, electrode design, gap and condition all influence ignition performance.
There’s no single plug or gap that suits every tuned BMW. MODE™ Pro Tuning can advise on an appropriate specification for your application.
Before tuning, make sure your plugs and ignition coils are in good condition. Any existing misfires should be diagnosed and resolved first.
Can I have my tune installed through a local workshop?
Yes. If you’d prefer workshop assistance, contact MODE™ for help finding a suitable dealer or tuning workshop in your area.
A workshop can assist with vehicle preparation, flashing, datalogging and dyno testing, while MODE™ Pro Tuning manages the calibration process.
Is MODE™ Pro Tuning only available for BMW?
MODE™ Pro Tuning offers custom calibrations for a range of modern European vehicles, including supported BMW applications.
Availability depends on your model, engine, ECU software and modifications. Send MODE™ your vehicle details and performance goals so we can confirm the right option for your setup.
